Samsung's slim t509 gets priced at $50 on T-Mobile

If you're looking for a slim candybar-style handset with decent data capabilities, you should definitely take a gander at T-Mobile's Samsung t509, which just got priced at merely fifty bucks after rebates, discounts, and such. You'll probably recall that the ~0.4-inch thick t509 is a tri-band model that also features Bluetooth and a camera with 4x zoom (whose resolution is still unspecified, which almost certainly means VGA). This model gets its Internet on through T-Mobile's EDGE network, and also sports such amenities as a speakerphone, pre-loaded IM clients, and some kind of ringtones that must be good because their names are trademarked.[Thanks, Chris C.]

Wow, for a blog dedicated to cell phones, you guys are really behind. T-Mobile has been selling it for a while...what's weird is Engadget (the regular one, mind you) posted that they were selling it a while back...

I was checking out phones not too long ago and the service rep I was talking to had this phone which he showed me. The camera is VGA, but the phone is pretty thin and felt solid for the short time I held it. Definitely seems worth it for $50.

This is the "oldest" news (phone released last week). I am very surprised that Engadget dropped the ball on this one!

Ok fellas, I hate to bust all of your balls (minus fella #3, thanks for the comment), but Engadget was up there with all the other tech blogs when photos and possible specs surfaced; it's actually why I started following the progress of it's swim towards the market. I think this is one blogger writing the first article a couple months back and second blogger not talking to blogger 1. And blogger 2, I will admit I'm dissapointed, all that information is readily available (and was provided so by this site I worship a while ago), but thanks for the update, I'll be buying this within the week.

Wife got this phone online this week. I have large hands, and the thing jumps out of them when I try to hold it. I'm NOT a fan of thin candy bar phones.
Wife will probably trade this phone back in, as she does a bit of texting, and since the keyboard is flat, it's hard for her to tell which button she's on. As far as all the widgets, it's fine.

I bought this phone, recieved it 2 days ago, audio is good, but texting is well, I was using the Nokida with a full keyboad before and probably will for texting because I hate the keypad. The ringtones are good and its easy to import your own (via bluetooth). The phone does have mp3 playback capability but you have to convert the files to .mmf for ringtones (There's a free converter out there from yamaha(sp)) Its sturdy and light weight, I bought an Invisible Shield for it (right after they finished making it since they're a local company.) and that increased my grip on it overall with the full body shield. Navigation is easy to pickup for someone who hasn't had a Samsung in the past and it wasn't too hard to find the options to chanage settings or play games.
Overall I like the phone and for $50 I don't think you can beat it.

The price has not dropped at all! The phone launched with the $49.99 price after a $50 mail-in rebate. I think that is what #4 was commenting on.

well I upgraded to the t509 from the razr and well I am sending it back to tmobile for a refund. the camera takes horrible pictures. the pictures are all blurry. the buttons are to small for text messaging. the navigation is horrible. and trying to figure out how to save pictures to the phone is a pain. i tried to get the mp3 ringer to work before I knew you had to make it a mmf file.
I like the size of the phone and the thin ness of it is great, so now i am going to get a unlocked slvr.
