Samsung unveils "world's thinnest" 6.9mm phone
Always one for a decent "world's ____" tag line for their product releases, Samsung is naming their new SGH-X820 Ultra Slim Phone the "world's thinnest" at a mere 6.9mm (0.27-inches) thick, the same thickness as the iPod nano. Not content to be merely skinny, the candybar phone also features a 2 megapixel camera, MP3 playback, Bluetooth connectivity and TV out. There is a minor hump near the top of the phone off the back that might sully your results when using this thing to pick door locks, but otherwise it's hard to imagine how it can get much thinner than this and still have a claim to 3D space. The phone should be out in Europe and Russia this week, with China to follow in June, no word on price.

Having just bought a black nano, this looks mighty tempting to go with it.
Then again I may stick with my original plan and get a black SE M600.

Wonderful another phone that won't be added to sprint's lame line up

How come i can't find this phone elsewhere? The SGH-X820 is a flip-phone... And when i search for "thinnest samsung" it comes out with the t509...
This phone does not exist....

It's supposed to read 828 not 820.
Jacob @ May 9th 2006 5:05PM
Well, I think 820 is correct, 828 is the modelname in Asia as far as I can tell. In Europe the model will be called SGH-X820. I just think it too new to show up on that many websites.

This is a very nice phone. Thin it may be, but it is also strong with its fibreglass-infused plastic body. Everthing works well and there are quite a lot of functions but lacks voice-recognition for eg. handsfree dialling. But battery life is a little short. Maybe because my battery is still new. Hopefully it will start to last longer after a few more cycles of charge and discharge.

I think this is a pretty poor designed phone for its generation. Battery life is poor: if you actually use the phone it it will hardly last a day. The screen goes completely blank if you don't use the phone; you will have to press a button to see if you have an sms or missed call. During charging it will light up your night time room; no way you can dim or turn off the screen then. Blue tooth performance is barely acceptable: uploading a 80k picture takes something like 2-3 minutes so uploading an mp3 is almost unimaginable. Sound quality during a call is also worse than the phones I used before. It seems that samsung almost comprimised everything else to archive the flatness of this phone. Don't buy it you will regret it as I do. I am re-activating my 4 year old siemens which weighted slightly more had 3 times better battery life so you don't need to charge it every day and also the audio quality was a lot better. Oh yeah and it was cheaper. Unbelievable how technology can actually worsen over time.

The T519 appears almost identical to this phone. I also am not impressed with the battery performance. The buttons on this phone look more comfortable than my T519. Still needs voice recg.
