Crossbow to be Windows Mobile 6.0?
Looks like "Crossbow"
may not be AKU3 after all, at least if CIO's Microsoft Informer report is to be believed. They assert that
"Crossbow" will be the Windows Mobile OS we see wedged in between what we have now with Windows Mobile 5.0,
and whatever it is Photon will be in late 2007 / 2008 when it starts showing up -- so apparently we can think of
Crossbow as WinMo 6.0. According to their report it will feature a new version of Office Communicator, and "strong
links with Office 2007 and Exchange 12," which sounds status quo (i.e. boring -- granted, it is CIO who
issued this). We'll get back at you when we have more info, so keep an eye out for Crossbow in the coming months, be it
update or new OS version entirely.

Crossbow isn't Windows Mobile 6.0
If you check the PowerPoint that I provided the link for, which is linked in your previous article on Crossbow/Photon, you will see on slide 55 that Windows Mobile 5.0 & Photon are both listed as "Platform RTM", while Crossbow is clearly listed as an "Add-On RTM". Obviously, a new Windows Mobile version release wouldn't be called an "Add-On".
I think its far more likely that Crossbow is going to be "Windows Mobile 5.0 Second Edition (SE)"

Any word as to weather it will take advantage of the modular component install that was supposed to be included with WM5, or will we have to wait for OEM's to test and release it (ie maybe never for many OEM's)

To bad MS couldn't add to some of the abismal functioning in mobile 5.0:
1) Excel/Word apps incompatible with desktop version.
2) No file syncing with actual desktop files.
3) Crappy browser.
4) Terminal Services Client hobbled by inability to blank out wallpaper of host pc.
5) No remote syncing with desktop.
