Every once in a while something flies below the
Engadget radar, like the supposed hack devised by the Moto modders at MotoModders, which, according to them, raises the
cap on some Moto phones with
iTunes to 1000 songs. At about
4GB worth of music it doesn't seem like we're gonna get there on MicroSD any time in the near future, but unfortunately
we don't even have a Moto iTunes phone laying around right now to give it a test with. Apparently all you've got to do
is run an app called MotoMidMan with the latest version of iTunes, perform a couple quick steps, and you're good to go.
Anyone tried this with their phone? Care to share your experiences? Enjoy it while you can, we're sure big daddy Steve
& Co. will be putting the kibosh on this right quick (if they haven't already).
[Thanks, Tiffany]

please read up on things, it doesn't work on all itunes phones, like the v3i :( though DAP has no limit
Robocellkid @ Apr 23rd 2006 11:58AM
Yes it works. What you have to do is find any compatible iTunes phone (SLVR, E398(thats been modded to R373), ROKR, but not V3i) and follow the instructions on MotoModders and BAM! 1000 songs!

Old news broskies, russian modders at motox developed this a couple months ago but translating was sort of hazy.

I did this on a Euro-SLVR that only came with the MotoTunes or whatever music player they had. I didn't want to give up my Tmobile so I tried their DIY and it worked perfectly.

Where can I find list of iTunes phones? Sorry, I'm don't see difference between phones :. Can I do it on my Razor V3?
David M @ Apr 30th 2006 5:22PM
#5 - your Razr V3 doesn't have iTunes so no, it would not work. If you are referring to a V3i - this hack does not work as was mentioned above. It works on the Moto ROKR phones and SLVR.

I've tried this mod from motomodders.net on an unlocked iTunes V3i I purchaced from ibuydigital.com, which had a 50 song cap.
First I had to change the language in MotoMidMan from Russian to English, then I backed up the original iTunes file. Next, I uninstalled the original 50 song iTunes and installed 1000 song iTunes program according to the instructions.
Unfortunately, the phone saw the 1000 song itunes as a corrupted file when I tried to launch it and offered to remove it with a yes/no prompt, so I clicked yest to have it removed, rebooted the phone and tried to re-install the original iTunes file. For some reason it saw reinstalled file as corrupted as well, so I'm guessing there may be somthing wrong with my version of motomidman or that 1000 song itunes file.
I tried to download another copy of the 1000 song limit iTunes thinking it may have been a corrupted file, but it looks like all the mirrors that were link to that original tutorial that were holding the file have been disabled.
I had to back up my phone directory and stuff saved on my the phone flash memory using motorola phone tools and reflash/flex the v3i using a Monster Pack downloaded from planetmotox.net then upload all my stuf back to the phone.
At the moment I still have that stupid 50 song limit. I tried upgradeing using that iTunes Store link that supposedly allows upgrades with smaller limit caps, up to max 100 song limit.

Thus far, clicking the link to upgrade the phone lefitamately through iTunes doesn't seem to respond either.

I have the SLVR and have trying to get 1000 songs on my phone since April - I have a PC, does that make any difference? I went to another website that had directions for a mac. I also downloded the patches but as someonelse said it was in Russian. Can someone give me directions(in lamen terms) how to get 1000 songs on my Motorola SLVR using a PC.

In my opinion is better to install de DAP (digital audio player) in the itunes phones because of the following: 1.- DAP is limited only by the memory chip, 2.- itunes is very strict with copyrights, so, DAP has more freedom. To do that go to the following address http://www.motox.info/showpost.php?p=74531&postcount=1

Derrick, I also get the "corrupted file" error message from the SLVR each time I try to upload the modified 1000 limit file. This is frustrating because I've done cracked the limit on my first SLVR, but cannot recreate on this replacement fone. I've retried..any ideas? markbytes@comcast.net

Darko @ Feb 23rd 2007 8:44AM
The Song limit is in the software itself not the phone so you should try another software i.e. MediaMonkey
Works like charm.. I Tried it on my V3i with itunes

OK, I know it's 2009 and there are plenty of new gadgets and toys now. I opt to still use my V3i everyday for several reasons:
1 It's small, durable, reliable and does most of the things I need to do in a phone.
2 It's a flip phone (Possibly inspired by Star Trek) which requires no pressing of buttons to hang up or answer if set so.
3 Accessories are still readily available on ebay etc for very reasonable prices.
4 Factory Original headset has mic for calls and can be found inexpensively. I still use the original that came with phone.
5 1394 style usb connection is very common and I already have car/pc cables for other gadgets that work with v3i.
6 I manufacture my own ringtones with phone tools media suite and use older update with no length limitations. Fun tones.
Number 7 is almost my favorite since ringtones became a billion+ dollar industry. I make awesome ringtones with any mp3 on my pc and they work on a few v3 phones I and my friends own too.
There are only 3 downsides to the v3i that annoy me over the years of use:
100 song itunes limit.(Brought me here)
No FM Transmitter or Receiver.
No Calendar/Calculator
Is that actually 5 things then?
Anyhow, I still use mine almost everyday with original battery and Motorola original bluetooth headset.
If the itunes limit has been hacked, let me know here because 4gb micro sd cards are cheaper than 2 packs of smokes.
=NoXiouS= @ Apr 8th 2009 12:33PM
I forgot to add:
Almost all later model phones are locked out from unpaid content ringtones.
That really annoys me and I will continue using my V3i with my own ringtones that make people laugh.
