Remember The Boy Genius, the dude who
scored those CDMA Q shots way back in the
year 2005? He's back, and hooked us up with some shots of
Motorola's
Canary, what we understand to be the true successor to the
RAZR. Contrary to prior reports that this thing would run Windows
Mobile, you can plainly see that it doesn't; we understand it uses the same software build as the RAZR
V3x, which might imply it's a UMTS device as well. A second
trustworthy source let us know that the device would pack a 2 megapixel camera, and would be positioned as Moto's new
flagship phone due for Q4 2006 or Q1 2007 launch, which jibes with everything else we've been hearing, and starts to
pull this picture together. More pics after the break!
P.S. It's worth noting, as we're told, that this
phone is more or less just as thin as the original RAZR, just not as wide. And that's supposedly not a plastic
exterior, but a soft-touch finish and aluminum detailing.

Good lord! The first RAZR was way to wide and long! This one looks narrow, but wow! Is that thing a foot long when flipped open????

i like the glossyness, but the size as the lenth of it is bigger then it's width is bad...i like that the razr was think and wide just for my hands. One thing i need to know is the screen size. that is why i bought the razr.

It is quite bulky at the bottom, so it must be an UMTS phone

Only a 2mp for a 'flagship' model phone comming out almost a whole year from now and not even a new idea for the form factor just a rendition of something they already make? Motorola must be real happy they're able to sell phones in a market like north america where we don't have access to the great majority of the cellular technology that dominates the rest of the world. With companies like LG that already have a 5mp phone, samsung with their 8mp, and the thousands of other things that would all rape this phone they would be killed off but quick.

Dylan - what form factor do you have in mind? A doughnut shape? Maybe a milk carton? Come on, it's a freaking phone. They all look the same. The ability to recycle form factors and platforms is the only way you could price phones cheap enough for Joe Smith in Iowa. Nokia wrote the book on that practice. And show me a 5-8MP phone that looks as thin as this one. It's all about a compromise between fashion and function. Don't hate it just cause 50 million people like the phone.

Us people in Iowa like a phone that isn't 2 feet long and an ugly shade of early phruck... and if this thing doesn't run a better UI than the standard Motorola scheme then its just a remanufactured piece... and who really cares about what camera is in the phone, does anyone even use it to take real pictures?
Joe Momma @ Apr 23rd 2006 3:16PM
How do you take fake pictures?
alan jones @ Apr 26th 2006 5:58AM
Hey, could be worse, at least it's not running Windows Mobile!
