Blackberry's 8700g with EDGE available on T-Mobile
It was bound to
happen sooner or later, and now the Blackberry 8700 smartphone is
finally available to push email-loving members of the T-Mob, as the 8700g. As far as the features go, well, you should
all know them quite well by now, as Cingular has had this model
since late last year: quad-band GSM with EDGE data, a 312MHz Intel processor, QVGA color display, Java, and
Bluetooth 2.0, plus the standard suite of RIM-supplied applications. Getting your Crackberry fix from the big
"T" will cost you $300 with a contract (after $100 in rebates).[Thanks, Phil G]

And since when does T-Mobile support EDGE? I didn't think T-Mob had or will have 3G till 2007 earliest (per an email from T-Mobile stating they do not have plans to introduce UMTS till end of 2007).

#1: EDGE is 2.5G, and pretty much all GPRS networks in developed countries have been upgraded to EDGE for some time now.

Let's just hope they've worked up a better interface than the default on the 7100t. That was just plain awful. I ended up using the Vodafone theme, which looked great and was very well organized.

#3: I cannot get yyour links to work, but would love to see the differences in the themes. Also, could someone more in the know explain the differences in speed between EDGE, 3G, etc... thanks!

Is there a difference between the Intel PXA901 processor in the 8700c and the Intel XScale in the 8700g? Everything else looked the same on Blackberry's product page, though I think TMobile might throw more messaging clients in.

4. Edge tops out at 240 kb/s. 3G can top out anywhere from 380 kb/s to 1.8mbps (note: BITS/second) on current phone models.

I've got one of these... lots of nice modern icony themes more like the Vodafone one with all the icons.

The c and the g are exactly the same except for the outside case. The g probably just has a newer software release than whatever Cingular has at the moment, but that's just a matter of upgrading...

Looks sharp!

One of the guys I work with has the 8700C (Cingular model is basically same as 8700G, but I may be wrong). I have a T-Mobile 7290. Friend showed me his 8700c this morning. It's about a quarter inch narrower than the 7290. That size difference makes quite a bit of difference. Lots of people where we work object to the paddle size of the 7290, but they are accepting the size of the 8700C. The display on the 8700C is way brighter than the 7290.
I like everything about my blackberry 7290 - except the speed of the browser is like dialup over an old modem.
