We got a chance to take a good, long look at
Samsung's new
T719, their SureType-equipped slim flipphone
with BlackBerry connect. The 1.3 megapixel camera and slim design are all well and good, but the keyboard is obviously
notable for a non-smartphone Samsung device. The BlackBerry integration was so seamless it was actually invisible
(emails just showed up in the unified email / SMS / MMS messaging app); the rest of the interface was the usual Samsung
UI we've come to know and
tolerate like. The handset itself? It was
surprisingly light, solid, and the keyboard was bright and tactile. Plus, how can we fault a phone that had
"Engadget" in the dictionary (or at least was able to predictively guess our weirdo name)?

I'm confused. I see T-Mobile as the name on the phone inside the UI and then the phone is open and it is showing the Cingular name on the outer display? Is anyone seeing this? I might actually get one. It seems slick and I have really come to love all my Samsung phones.

Its probably someone from Engadget using their T-mo sim card with the unlocked Cingular phone.

That last picture in the group isnt the same Samsung T719 phone.

If you look closer, it's not the same phone. It's either a pic taken using the camera on T719 or mistakenly posted.

What, are they using Sony's naming scheme now??

This will be great for people with hearing loss! Most people that can't hear well, lived many years with good hearing. We long for a cell phone we can actually use! This phone will allow people to reach us by email...and we can call them back and voice a prompt reply. I hope this phone is sold with a "voice to text" option. People call a toll free voice line and leave a message, the message is converted to an email and sent to the phone, making it most easy to reach the hearing impaired person.

does it have a flash for the camera or an mp3 player
Kevin Wolfe @ Oct 28th 2006 1:52PM
It has a 1.3 MP camera and does reasonably good movies. Image quality is good. It's a fixed-focus lens that best between 2 and 10 feet. It has a flash that works to about 6 feet and a movie light this doesn't do much beyond 3 feet.

JJT-just bought one from tmo and am playing with it. don't have BBC setup but will soon. tried to cable sync with pc/outlook and overflowed the calendar (1200 items in my outlook cal)...it truncated. my outlook contacts syncd fine (400 items). can't use as a modem for pc with tmo BBC service. seems like i might keep it.
