We find this one a little hard
to believe, but according to at least one set of stats, text messaging is a bigger business than the movie industry.
Revenues for texting in 2005 were about $75 billion, vs. $30 billion for Hollywood. Text is even bigger than the video
game biz, which only brings in $40 billion. And, to top it off, texting has a 90% profit margin. Given that texting is
bigger than the movie business, we assume it's only a matter of time before it has its own stars and scandals. Oh,
wait, it's already got that, right Paris?

OMG A NOKIA 8260(tdma)/8290(gsm)!!!
My first cell phone, oh how I miss it. Can I win this for day 30 of Engadget mobile's 30 days of cell phone giveaways? :) oh wait I still have mine. I just wish Cingular was GSM then so that I could swap my SIM into it and use it. It's still completely mint too, when it was 9 months old I shipped it to Nokia in Florida for them to replace all the casing and such on it and I only used it for like another month after that.
I want another!

Is the 75 billion figure worldwide or just in the USA?
I find it hard to believe it's just in the USA. This is a flawed comparison. It's like saying:
"Sales of Kia autos in the USA surpassed sales of Honda sales in North Dakota. Therefore, Kia is beating Honda."

No source of the data? About as credible as my insight of the day. "The sky is pink." It must be true!!

The figure must be worlwide.
I think any app that can save money will be a mobile killer app.

zverg:
Cingular is GSM. However, if your phone is "locked" or unable to use the 850 MHz band of GSM, then you'll have some problems getting it running.
