Hands on with the CoolPAD 728 CDMA/GSM smartphone
You'd better have a pretty
spectacular product if you're going to put "cool" in its name ("i," on the other hand, can be
prefixed to any piece of junk), and Chinese manufacturer CEC Telecom seems to have produced just such a device with
their CoolPAD 728. Available through mobile carrier China Unicom, the CoolPAD is a Windows CE-powered smartphone which
sports two SIM slots for the ability to run on 800MHz/1900MHz CDMA and 900MHz/1800MHz/1900MHz GSM networks-
simultaneously (we're not sure how many people are skillful enough to hold two conversations at once, but the bragging
rights alone warrant this feature, we feel). Other niceties include a dual-core 266MHz Samsung ARM processor, 2.8-inch
QVGA screen, 1.3 megapixel camera, and a handy, talking English-to-Chinese dictionary. We've got a few more pics of
this double-duty mobile, but for the real motherlode you've gotta head over to Engadget Chinese, who went so snap-happy
that they needed two posts to cram all the pics in.

useful idea, but what is the poing of having them working simultaneously? and wouldn't you need two phone numbers? since no carrier supports both networks. how is the battery drain with both GSM and CDMA running at the same time?? can't be good......
i wish they would do 3 SIM cards. then i would definately get a phone like this if it came to the USA b/c i would sign up for the add a customer on a friend or relative plan for $9.99/mo. phone service combined would cost me $30/mo and I would have access to all 3 major carriers. And just tell people from each carrier to call the respective number and I could save on making and receiving calls anytime of the day. and of course they all offer nights and weekends for free, so then i would use the calls from anyone and any phone system.

A very good idea. At the same time having two GSM SIM cards online. So you can use different providers and don't have to take two cell phones with you. In Europe it is sold by WIGro-Productions, http://www.prepaid-sim.eu

This phone seems very useful fpor travel here in Europe, but I have already run into a major glitch after just one week. The unit has gone into some sort of terminal software loop at power up where only thje passpword prompt appears. It does not allow the text keyboard to pop up so you can enter your password.
Has anyone else come accross this issue, and is there a way to do both soft and hard reboots to recycle the device?
Thanks.
Joe

Hi!
Does anyone know how to hard reset the coolpad 728g2? I have one of this, locked it with the password and now i am unable to get the virtual keyboard back to type in. I would like to get it to its defaults.
Any help would be great.
Thank you!
