Sharp debuts 904SH, first with VGA display
We've been hearing rumblings of a Sharp VGA phone since before 3GSM, but Vodafone has finally announced the 904SH, a 3G phone sporting four times the fun of QVGA at a 480 x 640 resolution. There's also a 3.2 megapixel camera with 2x optical zoom and autofocus, a 3D motion sensor, Bluetooth, GPS, miniSD storage, and WCDMA (UMTS) data. The phone should be available in Japan late April, let's hope for some swift imports. [Warning: PDF link!]

I only saw this site for the first time on Monday 2/27. I really, really, would love to have this phone.
Can you satisfy a phone junkies craving. I hate my phone, want a new one. Love to have it, as would everyone else.
Don't know how you guys give all this stuff away? But, I love it. Keep up the good work.

Since it'll be Voda-JP's flagship phone, I'll guess about 30,000 yen on contract. You can add about 2500 yen for the contract initiation fee, and 4500 yen to cancel the contract. All totaled up, you'll pay about 35,000 to 40,000 yen for a locked handset.

The screen looks awfully small for VGA... These would have been great when I was a kid, but my eyesight isn't what it used to be.

So $300 to $350 USD, but the phone is still locked? Hmmm... If that was unlocked, that would be a GREAT price for a phone with these specs....

how have they dealt with the battery life issue? Seems cool, but with battery technology the way it is I can't imagine the battery life would be very good in a package that small.

If you get one of these in Tokyo, take it to Tokyo Bikan- they unlock Sharp phones as well as Nokias and Sony Ericssons. They are the only unlock shop I trust.

Whoa VGA, I wonder how the GUI will look. Now to see the other color schemes.

You missed the phone's best feature: the Universe! Vodafone have used the 3D motion sensor to provide a complete constellation map of the night sky on the phone that rotates in real time as you move the phone. Utterly pointless, but what a great way to show off your phone!
See pics of it here:
