Hands-on with the Sony Ericsson W950

These shots definitely do NOT do this handset justice, but this morning we also got play with the W950, Sony Ericsson's new high-end Walkman phone that'll come with up to 4GB of internal memory (and is way sleeker than it's fellow 4GB musicphone, the Nokia N91). Not sure how much this bad boy is going to cost, but it can't be cheap to squeeze 4GB of memory into a phone, right? Either way, the perfectly flat keypad was more tactile than we'd expected (though it might not be so hot using it every day), and the 2.6-inch, QVGA touch screen was nice and crisp.

The phone looks nice with that flush keypad, but I can't go without a nice satisfying click from some raised keys.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't this thing only tri-band? That would suck if we don't get this thing in N. America. Can anybody confirm or deny this?

I hate Sony, but this phone could be nice... the W900i is already tempting.

Am I the only one that thinks:
No directional pad = No thanks!
So every time I want to do something on this phone I need to take out the stylus, using two hands, instead of just using a d-pad? I kinda like the inclusion of the touch screen, even though I'm not a huge fan of them, but the omission of a d-pad is going to give a lot of people serious buyer's remorse.

dont forget this doesnt have a camera.

*drool*
Justin, it's got a clicky-wheel-thing, just like the P-series, so I'm willing to forgive the omission of a d-pad.
So many lovely phones, hopefully they'll hit Orange UK by the time my upgrade comes round :)
paul @ Feb 28th 2006 11:10PM
Does this really have no camera at all??
Nils @ Feb 28th 2006 11:26PM
