Pantech parades around seven new concept phones

The concept phone beat always kind of amuses us, probably since a lot of the stuff we see people coming up with as their wildest phone fantasies aren't too far off from reality for some Asian phone manufacturers. Thus, Panetch concept phones may seem a little recursive for a company whose handsets are often so advanced, but here's what they got: Cancro, a 5G iPod like DMB handset; Echo, a digital camera like phone; Libro, a Bluetooth tilt & slider with DMB; Muse (right), a "sporty" spinner; My Music, a, um, musicphone; Phone Theater, a slider with a tube speaker dock; and our favorite, the Transformer (upper left), a wide LCD TV / gamephone with a kickstand.

"Cancro" means cancer (as in the disease) in Portuguese. Not a very attractive name... Can't the marketing people around the world spend 10 seconds on Google to see what comes up when they're picking a new name?

Some of the phones look interesting. The one with the turnable screen to use as sort of a wide screen would be nice for video.

Not all concepts of conept phones get into general usge, but some amazing features do finally end up in general useage in acouple of years

Well Pedro, contrary to what you might think, there are other languages than the ones you happen to speak.

You can't expect every product maker to check their name in every language to make sure it's "safe for a market it'll never get to".

They have the right idea for the two on the far left i think, both very stylish and also not the original color of a cell phone which will make them much more popular, as far as the one on the far left, i dont think it will do that well just because nobody wants to put a widescreen lcd up to there ear everytime they want to talk on the phone

Deluxe,
Portuguese is spoken by more than 200 million people worldwide, so I wouldn't call it a market "...it'll never get to".
It's a globalized world, and we have the best global tools we've ever had, so it's not a very professional attitude not to use them.
Just to test this, I just searched "cancro" on Google - 2,140,000 results. It turns out it means cancer also in Italian.

i like the one all the way on the left looks like it might be thin like the razor, not sure how they will make it play games, maybe the the nokia n=gadge which was a total usless cell phone, hope they improve

Dennis, i dont want to get into a whole thing here, but let's take a look at this.

Portugese: 200 million, that's a huge number of people, but lets concider this - There are 6 billion people in the world, more than 2.5 billion of which are in Asia, which is where this market is.

And also, your googling of 'cancro' barely means very little concidering that there are hundreds of languages in scripts you can't type on your keyboard, or without many many extensions.

Like i said before, It's an un-needed and unrealistic expectation to get every product checked against ever language.
