Ericsson sues Samsung in patent dispute

It may not be as big a story as today's other big patent news, but Ericsson has filed suit against Samsung, saying that the Korean company has allowed a licensing agreement allowing it to use Ericsson technology to lapse. According to Ericsson, Samsung licensed 15 Ericsson patents covering a range of technologies, including GSM, GRPS and EDGE, but failed to renew the agreement after it expired at the end of last year. If Ericsson's claims are correct, we somehow expect a settlement very soon. Either that, or Samsung will just have to bow out of the GSM market, which we somehow don't exactly expect the company to do.
