Motorola SHARE enables remote file transfer

Until the Q smartphone makes its long-awaited debut, and Motorola lovers can VPN with their PCs to their hearts' content, owners of certain Moto phones will have to settle for performing remote file sharing through a new service called SHARE. Free to Moto handset owners, SHARE is based on technology developed Avvenu Inc., and allows you to log into your account through your phone's browser and access pre-determined files on pre-approved computers with always-on Internet connections. Files such as documents, photos, and songs can then be sent to any email address, and since nothing is being uploaded or downloaded over the cellular network, you won't get hit with additional data charges. SHARE is available immediately- follow the "Read" link for a list of compatible phones.

Anyone care to speculate why this only works for GSM phones? I guess Verizon's cheap meat hooks strike again!? Heaven for bid they ever let their customers have anything for free...

You pay for what you get, If you want crappy file sharing features then stick with GSM. If verizon offers a service like this it wouldn't even compare.

one small feature that most dont know about MotoShare unless you actually use it, is that it dosnt only work with MotoPhones. It works, PC to PC also and you do not have to own a moto phone to use the service.

I visited Motorola's site to find out more about the SHARE service. What Engadget didn't care to mention is that if you have Google Desktop Search on your PC, you can use it from your cellphone to search for files. Also, it is possible to share files with mobile users too, not only PCs, but a lot of ifs arise such as the recipent's cellphone must be web and email-capable. In this case the recipient will use cellular network to get email from you, to laucnh a browser to follow the link to your PC and then to download a file, which can be pricey if you don't have flat-rate data plan. To continue, you can also upload files to your PC remotely, such as sending a picture you just shot and then sharing it with others if you want. The drawback - your PC should be always online to use SHARE.
