Sharp and Vodaphone show off VGA cellies at 3GSM
More 3GSM madness: Sharp and Vodaphone have
teamed up to show off several cellphones that sport VGA screens- four times the resolution of the QVGA screens found in
most Japanese handsets. It's unclear, however, whether these screens are true VGA or, like the display shown by LG at CES, they
achieve VGA resolution through sub-pixel rendering. Not that it really matters- if it walks like a VGA screen and talks
like a VGA screen, well, that's good enough for us.

Doesn't having a VGA screen on cell phone make the text very small when running most applications? So much data in such a small screen. I presume these screen are much smaller than those found on PocketPC PDA otherwise you have got a very large cell.

If anyone can pull off a VGA screen in a tiny space it's Sharp. Remember, they were the first to make a VGA screen for a PDA. Zaurus C700 anyone? And as for the font size: I imagine that most applications will have some awareness of the current DPI they're being run and thus will scale fonts accordingly.

I playing with one of these Sharp VGA screened phones and the screen is real VGA and the fonts look absolutely excellent. Of course, you can get really tiny fonts that you cannot read but the typical fonts they use are "normal sized" and just look extra rounded and smooth - no anti-aliasing required. IMO the screen really comes into itself when viewing maps like the piccy shows and then it's just amazing. Tie it in with GPS and vecotr graphics zoom and it is sur-weet.
